I’m making bold moves today, people! Bold moves. As in, I’m daring to suggest that you don’t have to “deserve” to eat that cookie.
You can just eat it.
And nothing bad will happen to you.
I promise.
(So let’s stop talking about food like it’s the round-trip ticket to New Zealand that you’ll never have enough frequent flyer miles to get.)
Oh my goodness, YES. I find that whenever I’ve been all I DESERVE THIS it’s because I’m actually feeling really angry (a la January Jones and traffic, albeit without the Teflon hair) and it’s a sort of claiming of space. Which might be fine if food didn’t have about a zillion other messages attached to it for me, you know? I think there are people who can treat food like that, like something they “deserve”–but I think that most of the time I hear this from myself and others, it’s exactly what you outlined here. Well put.
