So the funniest thing about the Amazon reviews on The Eating Instinct is how many people were upset that it’s not a diet book and doesn’t tell them how to eat. That’s because narrative journalism doesn’t usually come with recipes. But if they were mad at me, ohhhh boy they are going to be unhappy when they read THE F*CK IT DIET by Caroline Dooner. Dooner also doesn’t tell you how to eat… except when she tells you that you should eat, and give yourself full permission to eat, and eat whatever you are hungry for and at whatever time of day you’re hungry, yes even if that’s pizza in bed at midnight. As you might have guessed, THE F*CK IT DIET is not a diet. It’s not even a lifestyle plan. It’s more like a revolution.
If you struggle with restriction and binge eating, if you feel rising panic at the sight of a pan of brownies, if you can’t imagine letting go of your weight goals and giving yourself permission to listen to your hunger and fullness… this book will be a very, very, very helpful read. Dooner is a yoga teacher and coach as well as a dang funny writer, and she has lots of tools and tips that will help you enter the murky-seeming waters of intuitive eating and forge a happier relationship with food. I’m so glad to be able to point people to this book as a resource when I get the inevitable “but how do I do this?” questions.
And! Caroline will be joining us on an episode of the Comfort Food Podcast soon. So stay tuned for that! (Have questions? Hit me up in the comments and I’ll see how many I can cover when I interview her.)
