Well here’s Robert Pattinson on surviving the cover shoot for the March issue of Details:
“I really hate vaginas. I’m allergic to vagina. But I can’t say I had no idea, because it was a 12-hour shoot, so you kind of get the picture that these women are going to stay naked after, like, five or six hours. But I wasn’t exactly prepared. I had no idea what to say to these girls. Thank God I was hungover.”
And yet — here he is, manning up to shoot rape fantasy images like this one, despite this naked model presumably having the offensive lady part in question.
I love when actors are even creepier than the repressed, blood-sucking control freaks they play on the big screen.
(Via Salon’s Broadsheet, which sums it all up just perfectly. Second photo via Details.)
wait. WAIT. He is allergic to VAGINA?! Somebody better tell Kristen Stewart. And seriously, what kind of heart-throb admits to being adverse to women? Somebody needs new PR people!
I don’t even understand his quote, and I wonder if it’s being taken out of context (not by Beauty Schooled, but by Details and/or the blogosphere in general, cuz this is how I’ve read it everywhere). I admittedly have to read the full article to know for sure. But it sounds like he was asked after the shoot to comment on the whole experience of being photographed with a bunch of naked ladies. At which point, he said jokingly, “I really hate vaginas,” etc. As in, he’d seen enough, he was spent, he was over it.
I don’t know. Maybe it’s because I am indeed Team Edward (Jacob’s imprinting is weird in book 4) that I’m defending him. But I really think it’s just because I could absolutely see myself saying something like that if the tables were turned. Like when I’m on the subway and a guy takes up three seats–one for each leg. I think, “I’m sick of losing my seat to a penis.” That’s funny!
I do take issue with the photo shoot itself. When sex symbol Megan Fox gets photographed, she’s the one objectified. Yet when sex symbol Robert Pattinson gets photographed, they bring in other women for him to objectify. That just makes me hate penis.
Ok, admittedly I haven’t read the whole article either, and I have always leaned toward Team Jacob (Edward’s controlling tendencies freak me out way more, although the whole franchise is generally disturbing on a number of levels). But I think it goes without saying that Robert Pattinson is pretty skeevy.
I do agree with Patti, however, in thinking that what is way more upsetting than one more lame misogynist is the fact of the article itself in the mainstream media. I didn’t read the whole thing since I wasn’t going to endorse it by paying for it, but the photos and the tagline were enough: “The Remasculation of the American Male.” Because the American Male isn’t masculine enough, clearly, and doesn’t receive enough pressure to be as it is. The subjugation of women is a lost art, we’ve gotten too uppity with all these voting rights and sexual harassment laws; we obviously need to actively encourage some serious reinforcing of men’s superiority over the weaker sex. Otherwise, before you know it there’ll be equal pay for equal work! I don’t know why you questioned the need for rape fantasies, Virginia. I think our culture is crying out for a healthy dose, stat.
The message is pretty damn clear.
